Stork dinnerware

Merry Christmas to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the Seasonal festivities I have been busy creating various dinner wares for friends, relatives and my Folksy shop.

After painting my storks in Chinese paints/inks I thought the Storks would look pretty cool on some nice white ceramics. So I got busy in Photoshop, cutting out the storks from the background scene and shrinking the image in keeping with the wares I was placing them on. Here we go !!!

Here's the original painting I did using Chinese colours/inks on rice paper.

I thought the storks would also look really cool in a lovely Chinese blue.

After sorting through all my traditional watercolour paintings. I selected a number of them to be transfered onto a fruit bowl and some cups.

All the decals I used were fired in my kiln to over 800c. Making them dinnerware safe.

Winter Wonderland Exhibition

Today was the first day of the Winter Wonderland Exhibition. Held at The Creative Surgery down Normans Place in Altrincham. What a pleasure it has been to see beautiful art work on display. Many different mediums have been used to fill the gallery space, including oils, acrylic, print, water colour, Chinese art and ceramics to name but a few.....

 The 3 pieces on the left are created by the very talanted Bex Wild. The 3 prints in the center are Created by the marvelous surface designer Abigayle Coghlan. The next one and the one above are my Chinese landscape paintings, using Chinese inks on rice paper.

 The neon lit installation was created by a local artist, and would you believe it is a hollow sculpture created entirely from cello tape.

 The exhibition is open from 19 December until 19th January 2014. Open Thursday, Friday,Sat,Sun. Entrance is free.

                       

Some of Frances Lennon prints are also on display that have been kindly loaned from her grandaughter. What a treat !

Some of my ceramic art is also on display including the porcelain decorations, just in time for Christmas, and my Altrincham Squared tiles are on permanant display.

Ceramic Chinese Landscape

I've just completed a commission for a lovely local lady. I hand painted a Chinese landscape on rice paper using Chinese ink and paints. I scanned the painting and used Photoshop to make the image circular. I then printed the painting onto ceramic decal paper and slid the transfer on to a square ceramic plate and fired it in my wonderful kiln. So here it is.

Winter Wonderland

Over the past few weeks I have been invited to exhibit some art work for The Creative Surgery down Normans Place in Altrincham. After much consideration I decided to exhibit two paintings. Both of which have been painted under the brief of Winter Wonderland.

I have used Chinese colours on rice paper. I then pasted and backed both pieces.

Porcelain Christmas decorations

I decided to dress my Christmas tree this year with some hand made contemporary porcelain decorations.

I made these decorations out of porcelain clay by using the slab rolling method. After cutting out and leaving to dry a little, I impressed the surface design. Fired and hand painted, then I sanded the top surface to reveal the inlay pattern. After clear dipping, they were left to dry before their final firing.

The impressions have left a deep groove to enable the colours to settle in, revealing the flower pattern.

Clay Drum

This is one of my drums that I have made. It plays a really nice tone.

Made using the coil method in Stoneware. The clay has plenty of grog to give it stability and is fired high for strength and durability. I used natural thin goats skin and stretched it before stringing. Very little glaze was applied, too much glaze will dull the sound. Inspired by Tuesday Night Club.

Chinese Landscapes

Here is my collection of hand painted Chinese water colours. All these paintings have been completed in the last 12 months. I used Chinese water colours and rice paper.     There are so many great art works, it was a difficult choice.
