Equinox Goddess

At last, my finished Equinox Goddess. Chocolate black clay with Mayco low fire glaze for the spring flowers. After firing to 1040c I gave it a wax to bring the out the earthy colours.

This will be exhibited in the old New Look window in Altrincham town centre - near Rackams from the 14th of March and then at AWAH gallery.

Beads and pendants workshop

Well, what a wonderful evening spent with Dayvyhulme Crafters.

Last week I held a ceramic workshop with Davyhume Crafters. They made some beautiful beads and pendants using the best porcelain clay I have. What a turn out ! Very varied designs and gorgeous flower beads. Everyone got stuck in and spent a couple of hours working on their designs.

A week later, after the bisque firing, I returned to hold the 2nd workshop. Painting the beads and pendants, what lovely colours and glazes they have used, cant wait to fire them this Saturday.

equinox sculpture

I've just finished sculpting a heavily pregnant girl to celebrate spring equinox. Made using chocolate black clay. First I sculpted the basic shape and left it to harden a little. I then scooped the clay out by making an aperture at the base. The detail was then put in.

I've just got to let her thoroughly dry out now before firing to about 1000c. I might then add some green under glaze and transparent before firing.

Poppy pod

I made this last week. Made from white earthenware, coiled. This clay has very little grog so is unsuitable for coil pots. I had some of this clay left over from a previous project so thought I would use the rest up. As it is a coil pot I'm not sure how this one will fire.

The large pot was inspired by Chinese poppy pods. Thought it would be good for the Equinox Ceramic Exhibition next month. Ahhh Spring time !!!!

Bisque fired to 1000c. Undecided weather to glaze exterior after adding a little bit of underglaze. Here's an image of the bisque fired poppy pod.

My oriental poppy pods are inspired by this image taken by Karl Blossfeldt.

Equinox Ceramic Exhibition

Equinox exhibition coming soon. Sooo excited. I've contacted various ceramic artists/groups from around Manchester and world wide. Hope its a good turn out.

Due to unforeseen circumstance Art With a Heart gallery will be closing for this exhibition. instead the ceramics will be displayed in Altrinchams Northern Quarter, in the old new looks display area.

Stork dinnerware

Merry Christmas to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the Seasonal festivities I have been busy creating various dinner wares for friends, relatives and my Folksy shop.

After painting my storks in Chinese paints/inks I thought the Storks would look pretty cool on some nice white ceramics. So I got busy in Photoshop, cutting out the storks from the background scene and shrinking the image in keeping with the wares I was placing them on. Here we go !!!

Here's the original painting I did using Chinese colours/inks on rice paper.

I thought the storks would also look really cool in a lovely Chinese blue.

After sorting through all my traditional watercolour paintings. I selected a number of them to be transfered onto a fruit bowl and some cups.

All the decals I used were fired in my kiln to over 800c. Making them dinnerware safe.

Winter Wonderland Exhibition

Today was the first day of the Winter Wonderland Exhibition. Held at The Creative Surgery down Normans Place in Altrincham. What a pleasure it has been to see beautiful art work on display. Many different mediums have been used to fill the gallery space, including oils, acrylic, print, water colour, Chinese art and ceramics to name but a few.....

 The 3 pieces on the left are created by the very talanted Bex Wild. The 3 prints in the center are Created by the marvelous surface designer Abigayle Coghlan. The next one and the one above are my Chinese landscape paintings, using Chinese inks on rice paper.

 The neon lit installation was created by a local artist, and would you believe it is a hollow sculpture created entirely from cello tape.

 The exhibition is open from 19 December until 19th January 2014. Open Thursday, Friday,Sat,Sun. Entrance is free.

                       

Some of Frances Lennon prints are also on display that have been kindly loaned from her grandaughter. What a treat !

Some of my ceramic art is also on display including the porcelain decorations, just in time for Christmas, and my Altrincham Squared tiles are on permanant display.
